Squaring Procedure for Cutting Machines

  • Purpose Statement
  1. To obtain parallel and perpendicular axis’s (X, Y, and W) on a cutting machine.
  • Scope
  1. All ESAB Cutting Machines.

  • Procedure
  1. Put carriage on beam and adjust bearings with .003 shim.
  2. Attach drawing pen to carriage
  3. Set up drawing table under machine. This table should be as large as possible up to the 5 ft. X 10 ft. table.
  4. Fasten 4 pcs of 8.5 X 11 sheets of paper on table with masking tape across corners of the paper. See Illustration #1
  5. Draw the largest rectangle possible, corners only, by taking care to move one axis at a time and scribing ink lines at the four corners. See Illustration #1
  6. Take measurements from one corner to opposite corner diagonally. See Illustration #2
